IMPACT IN FISCAL YEAR 2011 

3.4 million families receive legal rights to land in rural China and India  

Landesa 2011 Annual Report In its 2011 Fiscal Year Annual Report, Landesa reports that its partnerships in India and China over the last year helped more than 3.4 million farming families receive secure rights to their land, providing these families with a foundation to escape extreme poverty and build a better future.

Landesa research produced for USAID on REDD+ and Carbon Rights
REDD and Carbon Rights
Landesa staff authored two research papers recently published by USAID regarding carbon rights and the climate change mitigation program known as "REDD+" to be implemented in developing countries. The two research papers are available for free download on the USAID Land Tenure and Property Rights Portal:

CHINA
Landesa partners with Rights and Resources Initiative to study forestland rights in China

China forestland farmerLandesa is working with the Rights and Resources Initiative to conduct comprehensive research on laws and local conditions in China. The research will be used to draft recommendations for reforms to China's land taking system. In early 2012, the report will be shared with law and policymakers in China.

LANDESA CENTER FOR WOMEN'S LAND RIGHTS
 

Landesa has just created a new Women's Land Rights Visiting Professionals Program to promote and support a global network of professionals committed to strengthening women's land rights.   

 

With Ford Foundation's generous support of $300,000, the new Women's Land Rights Visiting Professionals Program will bring development professionals from around the world to Seattle for six-weeks of training followed by a year of mentorship in their host country - all with an eye toward reinforcing their commitment to and their capacity to strengthen women's land rights in their own country and community.
