Landesa has worked in more than 40 countries—from Albania to Vietnam—providing structural changes that allow poor families to bootstrap themselves out of extreme poverty. Landesa’s current area of focus is China, India, and Africa. We also have small programs operating in Central Asia and Russia.

Broadly providing secure land rights pays dividends. It allows desperately poor agricultural laborers to grow the food they need to feed themselves and their families and it facilitates economic growth, improves the status of women, improves environmental conservation, and prevents unrest and conflict.

Already in China, more than 80 million farming families have obtained secure rights to the land they farm. This has prompted them to double their investment in their land. With long-term rights to their land, they are becoming more conservation minded, and their income is rising.
