Land rights are the legal rights to use, manage, and own land and resources. It means having the freedom to make decisions about the land you rely on. Stronger land rights hold the power for greater gender, climate, social, and economic justice and equity — for an individual, a family, a community, an entire country, and the entire globe. Deeply cross-cutting, the benefits only multiply.
We have strengthened land rights for more than 700 million people over the last four decades, empowering communities to break the cycle of poverty through secure access to their land. As the global stakes grow higher, our work becomes more important by the day.
A systemic approach
To effect systemic change, we engage a range of actors from global arenas to grassroots initiatives. This includes national governments, global and regional conventions, private sector partners, local decision-makers and organizations, and communities on-the-ground.
