SIDE EVENT

Creating a Gender Equal World: The Transformative Power of Women’s Rights to Land

WHEN: Sunday, June 2 | 6 PM – 8 PM

WHERE: West Meeting Room 221, Level 2, Vancouver Convention Center

EVENT DESCRIPTION: Join Landesa, an internationally recognized land rights NGO, for a cocktail reception and networking opportunity showcasing the transformative power of realizing women’s rights to land. Drinks and food provided.

Guests will learn through a brief program how to break down the persistent barriers to gender-equal land rights that constrain women’s realization of their human rights more broadly; how women’s land rights are linked to other measures of gender equality: protection from gender based violence, food security, education, women and girls’ agency and empowerment in their homes and other pressing challenges women face worldwide – as well as a new global advocacy campaign – Stand for Her Land – that aims to close the gap between law and practice to ensure women have access to their land rights, not only on paper, but in their daily lives. We will also preview an upcoming Sundance-funded documentary featuring a community’s effort to empower women to realize their land rights in rural Kenya.
