Gmasonah Togba Aboah is Landesa’s Land Tenure Specialist based in Monrovia, Liberia. Gmasonah started working for Landesa in 2022.

What brought you to Landesa?

Landesa’s vision of a world free from poverty through secure land rights—and its mission to promote social justice and opportunity for the poor—deeply resonated with me. As a passionate advocate for the less fortunate and marginalized, especially women and female youth in both rural and urban communities, I was drawn to Landesa’s work as a natural extension of my commitment to equity and empowerment.

What are your core responsibilities in your role?

I hold a leadership position overseeing the Liberia team, supervising all programs and projects to ensure they align with set goals and objectives. I represent Landesa at various meetings and provide technical support to partners within the land sector. Additionally, I collaborate closely with our regional and global offices to ensure coherence and synergy across initiatives.

What is the most rewarding part of your work at Landesa?

Being part of an organization that values its employees and empowers me to positively impact the lives of people in rural communities-especially women is deeply rewarding. I take pride in helping them not only become aware of their land rights but also secure legal ownership, which serves as a powerful foundation for their socio-economic empowerment.

How do you spend your time when you’re not working?

Outside of work, I cherish spending time with my grandchildren, sharing life experiences—especially those full of humor and laughter. I attend weekly church services, visit friends and family members, particularly the sick and shut-in, and make time for exercise every Saturday. One of my favorite moments is joining my lovely granddaughter to watch shows on her tablet while listening to her animated explanations—her joy is truly infectious.

Describe your vision for a better world.

A world where freedom reigns, and all individuals are treated with dignity and respect—regardless of their background or circumstances. In this vision, rural and traditional women are no longer held back by cultural biases. Instead, they enjoy secure legal ownership of land, including inheritance from spouses or fathers. A world where every woman can exercise her full bundle of land rights without fear or discrimination, unlocking her potential for true social and economic empowerment.
