Lucy James is Landesa’s Director of Global Human Resources. Lucy started working for Landesa in 2012.
What brought you to Landesa?
I graduated in the midst of a recession and was broadly looking for opportunities. I saw a posting from Landesa and couldn’t believe I had never heard of this organization. Once I researched more, I was excited and energized by how impactful land rights are and wanted to be a part of the mission.
What are your core responsibilities?
I have a leadership role in enhancing human resource systems to ensure support for the organization and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources office. I work on a number of HR functions across the organization including talent acquisition, employee lifecycle, training and development, and employee communications and relations.
What is the most rewarding part of your work at Landesa?
I value the opportunity to support my colleagues in little or big ways every day. It’s rewarding to know that I’ve helped. Contributing to a supportive environment not only strengthens Landesa but also deepens my connection to our work and mission.
How do you spend your time when you’re not working?
I spend a lot of time with my son exploring our neighborhood; most often several hours at the park followed by pizza and ice cream. I also love going out with friends and family, comedy shows, and catching up on my favorite TV shows and sports events.
Describe your vision for a better world.
My vision for a better world would be a place where people are respected, comfortable, and feel secure, supported by equitable systems and opportunity. A place where communities thrive and are guided by sustainable practices.
