Saheli Gupta is Landesa’s Program Associate for the Mangroves project based in India. Saheli started working for Landesa in 2022.

What brought you to Landesa?

As a young development sector professional at the beginning of career, my intention was to work in an international NGO where natural resources management in environment protection is a priority. Landesa’s focus on women land rights, sustainable use of land and its linkages with climate change mitigation closely align with my interests. This alignment is what motivated me to join Landesa.

What are your core responsibilities in your role?

As a Program Associate, my responsibilities include working in collaboration with local government and women groups in implementing mangroves conservation and climate change mitigation by pursuing strengthened forest resource and land tenure. Overall, I ensure that the project aligns with Landesa’s theory of change, vision and mission.

What is the most rewarding part of your work at Landesa?

The most rewarding part of my work is successful advocacy with government stakeholders by incorporating mangroves conservation components within the pilot local government plans as means to contributing to localised SDGs where women’s roles are clearly recognised and appreciated.

How do you spend your time when you’re not working?

When I am not working, I enjoy listening to music, watching movies, observing nature closely, meditating and spending quality time with my family.

Describe your vision for a better world.

My vision for a better world is one where people live in harmony with nature, protect ecosystems, and sustainably use natural resources for the well-being of the mother earth.
