Land and resource planning can help communities respond to climate change and engage in sustainable management practices. This brief presents initial findings from an ongoing study into the development of sustainable land use plans (SLUPs) and their potential to create environmental and social benefits. It includes valuable insights for how governments, civil society, and communities can use SLUPs to address local land and resource management challenges; the importance of incorporating gender equality and social inclusion into SLUPs; and the ways in which SLUPs can build agency among communities while address degradation.
