Women are critical for the world’s food systems, yet they remain disproportionately impacted by insecure land rights and less access to agricultural inputs and services. By strengthening women’s rights to land, women farmers can unlock their own potential to boost productivity on their land and farms. Agricultural development projects and agribusinesses can be key contributors to this effort; however, promoting gender-equal land rights is rarely part of agricultural development projects.
This infographic highlights five tested approaches that agricultural projects and companies can apply to strengthen women’s land rights, including:
- Awareness-raising and legal literacy
- Expand women’s land access and governance roles in customary tenure systems
- Support gender-responsive, participatory certification of land rights
- Combine land and agricultural interventions in the same project
- Address social norms and behavior change
Read on to see concrete examples of how these interventions have resulted in stronger land rights for women, and a more resilient food system for all.
