Land is foundational for social and economic empowerment and for the fulfillment of dignity and rights for all. Unfortunately, land and inheritance rights aren’t equitably distributed, and widows are among the most likely to encounter obstacles to their rights, owing to discriminatory customs and traditional practices.
Landesa works to bring down these barriers to ensure that widows can enjoy stronger rights to land and inheritance. Through equitable and socially inclusive programs, we help ensure that widows have a seat at the table when it comes to matters related to land.
On International Widows Day (June 23), Landesa reflects on the important work to strengthen land and inheritance rights for widows. We hope these stories will inspire you as a testament to the determination and quiet courage that widows possess in standing up for their rights.
