The New Times — In partnership with the Rwanda Cadastre Service and government authorities, Landesa helped support a major land registration effort in Rwanda’s Eastern Province that corrected more than 75,000 land records, strengthened tenure security, and reduced long-standing land disputes for thousands of landowners.

Rwanda Inspirer — Landesa is partnering with the Rwanda Land Management and Use Authority to deploy 50 specialized land surveyors in Eastern Rwanda, addressing chronic land boundary disputes in Nyagatare, Kayonza, and Kirehe districts. This initiative aims to provide accurate boundary demarcations and empower local authorities to manage land conflicts effectively, fostering peace and reducing future disputes.

Landesa’s Rachel McMonagle was quoted in an article about the need to include rural people in conservation efforts. Failing to safeguard the land and forest rights of Indigenous communities would both jeopardize livelihoods and undermine global efforts to combat climate change.

‍Africa’s forests and natural areas are an indispensable collective resource. Capably stewarded by the communities that have called these areas home for centuries, these forests can continue to ensure livelihoods while serving as a bulwark against climate change.
