JUNE 27, 2012 — UN Women and the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights convened an expert group meeting to develop a set of guidelines to help UN member states and other stakeholders improve women’s land and property rights. Elisa Scalise and Xiaobei Wang, both members of the Landesa Center for Women’s Land Rights, made presentations at the meeting on the legal considerations to improve women’s land rights in the context of land tenure reform, and rural women’s land rights in China.
This was a strategic opportunity to present to this key audience of policy makers and influencers to ensure land rights are a core component to the guidelines that govern their work on women’s rights.
