WHY WOMEN’S LAND?

Women living in rural areas make up a quarter of the world’s population, but many have no rights to the land they tend and depend on for their livelihoods. Securing those rights is crucial to fulfilling women’s fundamental human rights and achieving an equitable and sustainable world for us all.

Women play an indispensable role in the rural economy, shouldering time-consuming household duties. Their labor feeds families, yet fewer than 15 percent of rural women have secure land rights – an essential ingredient in boosting agricultural productivity, overcoming poverty, and empowering women economically and socially.

After her father died, Rita & her children were forced off their land & barred from planting long-term crops. But in a training from @Landesa_Global & partners, Rita learned about a new law that protects her #landrights. She plans to plant palm trees. landesa.org/womensland
