Just days before International Women’s Day, more than 2,000 single women in Odisha received an extraordinary gift: secure rights to their own plot of land. Odisha’s Women Support Center (WSC) program, in partnership with Landesa, distributed land titles to the formerly landless women during a patta ceremony March 5.
For these women, secure land rights are just the beginning. The WSC program will also help them access social entitlements, food security benefits and other government resources.
“The WSC program aims to help these women live a life of dignity, with secure livelihood,” said district official Rajesh Patil.
